Final Day of Swimming

Today was the last day for swimming in our school pool.
We have really enjoyed our lessons.
Thank you Todd, Rachael, Tina, Fiona and Adele for helping us learn to do more in the water.
Today was extra special.
When we arrived we saw...

Our 'Swimmer of the Week' was Samuel. Congratulations Samuel.

We are looking forward to our Swimming Sports at the Tawa pool in two weeks time.

Our Wondering Table

Wow!
We discovered everything on the table has 'corn' in it.

Can you believe that this bottle of 'glucose syrup' which looks like water has corn in it?
We also discovered that this is one of the ingredients in the 'jelly beans' that Wade is holding.
How has the corn been changed?
Some of us thought that maybe the corn had been crushed up.
Some of us thought that maybe the corn had been melted.
The wondering table has been fun.
I wonder what will be on it next week?

Our Wondering Table

Last week we came to school and discovered all these things on the red table in Rata block.
Our challenge was to work out what was the same about all the things on the table.
What do all these things have in common?

Some of our wondering thoughts were...
"Two things are cereals."    "Some things are yellow."   "Some things have 'corn' in the name."
"Some things are the same shape."
What do you think?

Congratulations!

One of our special Rata Rua girls is missing from this photo.
She was celebrating the arrival of her little baby brother.
Congratulations to your family too, Isla!

Ordering Numbers

On Thursday we played a maths game in teams.
We had to take a number from a box and run and put it in the right place on a number line.
We kept having turns until the number line was full.
At the end we checked our number lines.

We talked about how we knew the number was in the right place.

How could the shading help to work out where the number 6 would go without counting?

Samuel said we put 5 at the end of the blue shading.Lucas said the 6 goes on the white after the blue part.

Liam said we know that 1 and 10 go at the ends.

Being a friend and having a safe and happy classroom.

The Selfish crocodile didn't have any friends because he was unkind to the other animals and wouldn't share his river with them. One day he woke up in pain. A brave mouse went to see what was the matter. He discovered the crocodile had a tooth ache. Climbing into the crocodiles mouth he pulled out the tooth. The crocodile was so pleased that the mouse had helped him. They became friends. Fnally the crocodile  shared his river with the other animals.
What do you say and do that show you are a good friend to the other children in Rata Rua?

Greedy Cat Statistics

We drew our favourite type of cat.
Are any of our cats the same?

 Samuel found cats with stripes.
 Kahu found cats with spots.
 Lucas found cats with blue.
We made a pictograph so we could count the types of cats.
We can look at our pictograph and share what we have found out.

This week the 'big book' was a story by  NZ author Joy Cowley.
